Networking - European networks

Our Brussels office was established over a decade ago; with a mandate to advise and lobby European institutions and helping shape policy on regional development and economic and social issues relevant to London.

London boroughs have to defend their case in Brussels as European policies, which may seem remote, have a huge impact at a local level., due to the principle of subsidiarity. For this reason, London Councils European Service lobbies for boroughs in Brussels.

With over a decade of experience in dealing with European institutions, we can offer boroughs access to a number of Europe-wide networks providing the best opportunity to be involved at European level.

London Councils European Service akes a leading role in a number of Europe-wide networks, including:

• ERLAI  (European Regional and Local Authorities on Asylum and Immigration)
  
• UKBOs networks (United Kingdom Brussels offices)
  
• Cities for Cohesion, which brings together large urban areas across the EU
  
• Capital Cities and Regions for cohesion, constituted by the Brussels offices of the EU capital Cities and Regions. The European Service is a leading member of both networks, and with its partners has successfully lobbied officials from the European Parliament and the Commission and the Committee of the regions, to reinforce the case for urban areas, specifically in the context of the new Structural Funds programming period. Common positions have been jointly developed by the two networks and two position papers were submitted to the European institutions on the Community Strategic Guidelines and on the EC’s working paper “Cohesion policy and cities: the urban contribution to growth and jobs in the regions.
  

• EPRO (Environment Platform of Regional Offices), a network with strong working contacts with the DG Environment of the European Commission, and meeting EU institutions officials on a regular basis in order to be fully updated on environment policy developments.

London Councils European Service also actively participates in a number of other Brussels networks, through which it is able to work with partners in other regions to influence various aspects of EU policy.
